Strike, divest, and vote for our future. From April 22, the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, to April 24, activists, performers, thought leaders, and artists will come together for an empowering, inspiring, and communal three day livestream mobilization. The fights against the coronavirus and the climate crisis go hand-in-hand, and as we work to flatten the curve of this pandemic, we must strive toward the longer term goal of building a society rooted in sustainability and justice. The Town of Chapel Hill is creating a Climate Action Plan that outlines how we can work together as a community to address the impacts of climate change. The goal of the Plan is to identify the most meaningful actions we can take over the next five years to make Chapel Hill a stronger and more resilient community.

Water Warriors: watch and take-action

Learn about the Mountain Valley Pipeline and the Southgate Extension, proposed to run through Alamance county. Find out how to take action opposing this project at Chapel Hill Public Library - room A with dinner from Alfredo's Pizza Villa.

Join us for a viewing and discussion of Water Warriors - the story of a community's successful fight to protect their water from the oil and natural gas industry. Following the film we have a chance to discuss the Mountain Valley Pipeline and the Southgate Extension which is proposed to run through Alamance county. Special guests include Caroline Hansley, an organizer with the Sierra Dirty Fuels Campaign who is working to oppose the pipeline, and Cyrstal Keck, an Occaneech-Saponi citizen. Crystal's tribal lands and heritage are threatened by the pipeline. We’ll be encouraging attendees to submit comments opposing the pipeline. Please RSVP to help us estimate our pizza order and BYORB (bring your own reusable bottle) - water fountain and other drinks for purchase available in the library lobby. Hosted by Sierra Club OCG.

Filmmaker Liz Canning cycled everywhere until she had twins in 2008. Hauling babies via car was not only unsustainable but took the freedom and adventure out of life, and Liz felt trapped. She Googled “family bike” and uncovered a global movement of people replacing cars with cargo bikes: bicycles designed for carrying passengers and heavy loads. Liz set out to learn more, and MOTHERLOAD was born.
